Nymph fishing is very popular today. There is nothing surprising in that. This technique has many interesting advantages. Being part of fly fishing, this technique is suitable for beginners as well as professionals. To avoid bad surprises, discover in this article the best techniques for nymph fishing.
What does nymph fishing really consist of?
This technique of nymph fishing is based on the use of a material that imitates aquatic insects in the nymph stage, hence its name. This material will attract the target fish to facilitate their capture. Appeared around 1890, this technique interests more and more and does not stop evolving.
It can be done on the surface as well as on the bottom. Of course, the type of silk differs from the area where the fishing will take place. If you are fishing on the surface or in the middle, you should use a floating line. On the other hand, if you plan to fish on the bottom, you should use a sinker line. Note that the type of nymphs varies depending on the type of fish you are looking for.
The main types of nymph fishing
In principle, nymph fishing exists in 2 types which are :
- Nymph fishing by sight which consists of spotting the fish before throwing the imitated bait. The nymph used is weakly weighted and is presented in inert drift. What makes the difference of this technique is that it allows a light animation of fishing nymphs to attract the attention of the target fish.
- The fishing in nymph in wire which consists in presenting directly 2 or several fishing nymphs weighted in water. This one does not need a specific fish spotting. This method requires a good knowledge of the current veins in order not to waste time.
The principle of the operation
You will have understood, the principle of operation of the nymph depends on its type. Starting with the fishing nymph with the wire, two declinations are offered to you. First, you have the fishing with plated wire which as its name clearly suggests has a well-colored indicator. This technique is obviously used on the surface of the water.
Then, you have the nymph fishing with European style wire which remains the modern version. The indicator, often of fluorescent color, is located at about 45° to the surface of the water. For these 2 versions, it is recommended to recover the surplus of banners, whatever your position.
As for the sight nymph, as mentioned above, it is necessary for the fisherman to locate the fish first. Once the latter is detected, options are available to you. First, it is possible to move the position closer to a certain distance to cast the nymph. It is of course important to respect the timing of the casting.
To avoid unpleasant surprises, it is advisable to choose well the fishing nymphs to use. It is indeed the success of fishing.
